Jacob is tall, dark and handsome, according to the staff at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. He’s not a media star, however, but a two- to three-year-old Bully Breed mix who was picked up as an injured stray on July 9th. While the open wound on Jacob’s leg soon healed, he was also found to be heartworm positive. And that condition would require more effort to cure.
Dogs of Destiny rescue in Virginia had space for Jacob if he could first have his heartworms treated. So Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted RADAR on September 21st. Would we be able to help? We committed to helping Jacob, and he finished his heartworm treatment on October 16th.
So besides being good looking, what else does Jacob have going for him? “He is one super chill, polite and loving companion pet,” we were told. “He sits, waits and gently reaches for a treat. He’s smart, attentive, and did an excellent job in meeting and hanging out with a tiny Chihuahua and an oversized Aussie mix. He is easy to manage and, according to volunteers, he has a ‘dignified’ feel about him. To sum up, Jacob is an approachable, appealing guy who just needs some love and a new home.” Click here to view more photos of Jacob.
RADAR paid all of Jacob’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $255.
