Walt Disney’s movie “Lady and the Tramp” is no match for the real-life story of this Lady. About two years old and a Pit Bull mix, Lady’s story starts on October 31st of 2014 when she was hit by a car. With an obvious injury to her front right leg, her owners took her to a vet. Whether Lady ever received treatment is unclear. On March 25th her owners surrendered Lady to the Harnett County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. Not only couldn’t Lady walk on the injured leg, but she was very pregnant.
Chris Leone, an advocate for the Harnett County Animal Shelter dogs, immediately requested RADAR’s help for Lady. We agreed to provide an offer to assist with Lady’s vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On March 28th, Friends FUR Life K9 Rescue in North Carolina agreed to take Lady, and just in time. She gave birth to nine pups that day! Sadly, one pup didn’t survive. Lady and her eight surviving puppies were pulled by the rescue the same day.
After caring for her pups, the rescue’s attention turned to Lady’s injured leg. On August 17th her lame front right leg was amputated.
Lady’s foster mom Brittney had this to tell us: “When I first met Lady she was a very unique pup, with a personality unlike any dog I had ever met. She was damaged but she still was so strong, and full of love and life. We immediately clicked together. She adapted well into our home and is a part of the family. Lady makes everyone who meets her smile. I would really love to take Lady to meet kids and other people who have lost a limb to make them feel better because I know she could really make a difference.” To view more photos of Lady, click here.
RADAR paid all $200 of Lady’s amputation surgery costs.
