Hi, my name is Luke, and I want to tell you my story. I’m somewhere between three and four years old, and I’m a Lab mix. I’m also pretty good looking, if I do say so myself! My last owner had to move away and couldn’t take me along, so I ended up at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on June 23rd. I found out that living in a shelter is a whole lot different than living in a home, but I still tried my best to make some new friends. While I was there, I also got the bad news that I was heartworm positive.
On August 24th, Susan Blakeney, a nice lady with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue reached out to a group named RADAR and asked if they could assist in the cost of my heartworm treatment so that a rescue would take me. They agreed, and on August 27th To Love a Canine Rescue in Philadelphia said they would take me in! I went to the vet to get those nasty little heartworms out of my system on August 29th.
The folks at the shelter said this about me: “Shelter life was scary and an adjustment, but this sweet boy hasn’t let it get him down. He’s made the best of his new reality and waits day by day for a new family to come along and say they are looking for a boy just like him.” To see more photos of me, click here!
RADAR paid all $261 of the heartworm treatment costs for Luke.
