Aaliyah is an all-star! On August 19th, this sweet two to three-year-old Shepherd mix arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Because Aaliyah tested heartworm positive, she had no adopter or rescue interest. She was set to be put to sleep on October 17th. This furry friend was in need of some urgent help to get her off of death row and into a rescue!

On October 14th, RADAR offered to cover Aaliyah’s heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take her. Right in the nick of time, on October 17th, Caring for Creatures in Virginia agreed to taker her. Aaliyah then received her heartworm treatment on October 28th. Thanks to help from RADAR and its supporters, Aaliyah is ready to move into a forever home!

Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue and a volunteer with Caring for Creatures, told us this: “The lovely Aaliyah should definitely be on your A-List! She is all smiles, wiggles and jiggles. A recent mom, Aaliyah is very patient with other dogs. Playful, but also simply happy to politely stand by her human, Aaliyah loves interacting with others and would be perfectly suited in a home pre-stocked with kids and other dogs.” Click here to see more photos of Aaliyah.

RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Aaliyah, which totaled $229.

UPDATE! Aaliyah has been adopted! Now named Gina, she was adopted on Thanksgiving Eve! Her new Dad meet her on November 25th. He came back the next day to adopt her, saying that he “couldn’t sleep that night because I kept seeing her sweet face!”

UPDATE! All funds for Aaliyah have been raised! Thank you!
