Singer and songwriter Adam Levine is part of the rock band Maroon 5, and this Adam Levine was part of the Marooned 5: five dogs who were on death row. Two to three years old, this Labrador Retriever mix arrived on June 3rd at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. He was brought to the shelter by animal control. The combination of Adam Levine being a black dog and heartworm positive made him far less likely to be adopted or pulled by a rescue. Sure enough, Adam Levine was one of five dogs placed on the shelter’s euthanasia list for July 16th.
In response to a July 10th request from Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, for help to save Adam Levine, RADAR provided an assistance offer to cover his heartworm treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On July 16th, with Adam Levine’s time just about up, Puppy Paws Rescue in Maryland agreed to take him! Adam Levine’s heartworm treatment took place on August 19th.
Susan shared this with us: “Adam Levine is a handsome, fit fellow who would be a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys exercising outdoors, playing frisbee or going for walks. He listens well to directions, and was friendly to all the cats and dogs at the shelter. He really enjoyed getting out of his kennel, and was very neat with his paws, careful not to step near the cats that sidled up to him as he entered the greeting area for his photo shoot. Aptly named, this boy is definitely a ladies’ man! He really knew how to work the camera!” Click here to view more photos of Adam Levine.
RADAR paid all of Adam Levine’s heartworm treatment costs, totaling $317.
