Addie coined a new word to express her thanks to everyone who helped to save her: graddietude! Addie’s story starts way back on October 21st when she arrived at the Sampson County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. About two years old and a Pit Bull mix, Addie not only had a deformed rear paw, but she was also heartworm positive. The combination of her breed mix and her heartworm status did not add up well for Addie. Despite being a shelter favorite, and great with children and dogs, she had no rescue or adopter interest. Addie was scheduled to be euthanized on January 9th.
On January 7th, Canine Connection All Breed Dog Rescue and Sanctuary in Michigan offered to take Addie if they could get help with her heartworm treatment costs. A request was made to RADAR and we agreed to help. Addie was now safe! She arrived safely in Michigan on January 10th. Shortly after arriving she was diagnosed with kennel cough, which she was believed to have contracted during her transport. Addie was finally able to get her heartworm treatment done on March 16th and 17th.
Addie’s foster mom told us this: “Addie improves with each day. She shows no signs of aggression towards any of our dogs, but she is very, very food oriented! She has mastered the “stay” command. She learned her new routine within hours of being at our home. She loves sitting out under our covered deck and watching the critters and birds. We are so thankful that we found a way to save her life, and for the help from RADAR so we could take care of her heartworm treatment.” To view more photos of Addie, click here.
RADAR paid all of Addie’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $252.
