What Aiden needed most was spelled out in the first three letter of his name: AID. And fortunately for this four-month-old Plott Hound mix, that aid came in multiple forms. It all started late on January 17th, when Aiden, a stray, was struck by a car in Darlington County, South Carolina.
An injured Aiden would not have survived at the local shelter, so the dedicated folks with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue jumped into action. He was immediately taken to the vet to get aid for his injuries, which included a broken leg.
What Aiden needed now, and fast, was two other forms of aid: a commitment from a rescue to take him and financial assistance to pay his vet bill.
Initial reports indicated that Aiden was a Pit Bull mix. Healthy Pit Bulls are difficult enough to place, but an injured one is next to impossible. However, that didn’t stop Susan Blakeney, a volunteer with the Darlington Rescue. On January 18th, Virginia Paws for Pits agreed to take Aiden, giving him the crucial aid of a rescue placement.
As it turns out, Aiden was not a Pit Bull mix, but a Plott Hound mix! But would Virginia Paws for Pits still take him? Luckily, and much to Susan’s relief, they would.
All that Susan still needed was the financial aid, all $658 of it! She turned to RADAR, and we made this matching challenge offer: if the Darlington Rescue could get its donors to contribute $329, RADAR would pay the other $329. They did, and we did!
Despite attempts by the veterinary surgeons to pin Aiden’s leg in place, it would not stay. His leg was amputated on January 23rd. He was well enough to be released on January 25th. Aiden is now recovering in a temporary foster home while he awaits his upcoming transport to Virginia Paws for Pits. Click here to view more photos of Aiden.
RADAR has paid its $329 half of Aiden’s $658 vet bill.
