Prince Albert was the much-loved husband of Queen Victoria. The dog Albert is handsome just like Prince Albert, but his life was anything but royal. Albert had been wandering as a stray for two months before he was brought to the Darlington County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on October 19th. Albert is a one- to two-year old Shepherd mix with a gorgeous brindle coat. He was such a great guy at the shelter that when other dogs were being evaluated, he became the “dog tester” and helped evaluate the temperaments of other dogs due to his well-balanced, predictable behavior. Sadly, due to his positive heartworm status, Albert landed on the urgent list at the shelter.
On January 14th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked us for assistance. To Love A Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania would take Albert if we could help with his heartworm treatment costs. We agreed, and on January 29th he received his heartworm treatment.
Albert was described this way by the shelter: “He’s everyone’s friend. He gets along with both male and female dogs, and is affectionate and sweet. He is playful, gentle and happy, and would be a great addition to any family. His happy and stable temperament makes everyone enjoy being around him. He’s a jolly guy who has just what every home needs: a wonderful demeanor and a willingness to love everyone in return!” Click here to view more photos of Albert.
RADAR paid all of Albert’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $307.
