Hi! Ali here to tell you my story! I’m a three-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, and a real black beauty. On February 10th, my days wandering around as a stray came to an abrupt end when some folks from animal control picked me up. I was taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. I was very lonely and frightened at the shelter, often hiding out in the back of my kennel and trembling with fear. Potential adopters and rescues just passed me by. It didn’t help that I was heartworm positive. Next thing you know, I’m on the shelter’s list of dogs to be “put to sleep” the first week of April.
Little did I know that there were lots of kind people working behind the scenes to save me. A group called RADAR provided an offer to cover my heartworm treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to take me. And it worked! Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take me! I finally got my heartworm treatment done on June 24th. Thank goodness that is over!
What can I tell you about myself? Well, I’m never in a rush! I slowly meander around and emit a very quiet, peaceful aura. I will teach you to take things in stride and simply enjoy what is in front of you. I am very gentle, and keep a steady wagging pace with my tail. I am not one to get in your face, but rather quietly hang by your side and simply be there to keep you company. I’m really a lovely lady with a very soothing personality, honest! RADAR paid all of the costs for Ali’s heartworm treatment totaling $310.
