All in favor of helping Alley, say “Eye” (as in cherry eye)! This two-year-old Puggle (Pug-Beagle mix) was one of three Puggles surrendered to the Chester County Animal Care & Control shelter in South Carolina on August 11th. Two of the three dogs, Alley and Bruiser, had cherry eye. While it is easily corrected with surgery and is relatively inexpensive, most potential adopters and rescues pass over cherry eye dogs.
After the shelter staff shared the information on these three dogs, on August 15th, Tina Watson from My Dog House Rescue in South Carolina offered to take all three into her rescue if she could get help with their vet costs. The cherry eye surgery cost for Alley and Bruiser would be $125 each. On August 20th, the shelter requested RADAR’s help, and we immediately agreed to cover the surgery costs for both dogs. The next day all three dogs were safe!
Alley and Bruiser had their cherry eye surgery done on August 22nd. While Bruiser recovered very quickly, which is usually the case, Alley kept getting her eye irritated, so it took a few weeks for her eye to fully heal. Tina tells us that, “Alley is a wild child, but is a love bug at the same time!” Click here to view more photos of Alley.
RADAR paid all of Alley’s cherry eye surgery costs of $125. Unfortunately, on October 1st, Alley had to have a second corrective surgery on the same eye. This time the surgery cost $130, so we have now increased her goal to $255.
