If Anabel had been deserted at the altar on July 7th instead of being picked up as a stray dog, she wouldn’t have felt any worse. Anabel was taken to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. A scan showed that she had a microchip. Her owner was contacted, but when he arrived to pick her up, he left her there rather than pay the pick-up fee. He had gotten her the chip, then he gave her the slip. Normally a dog like Anabel would have plenty of prospects from which to choose. She is young, pretty, cultured, mannered, sweet, friendly, sociable and playful. But because she was heartworm positive, Anabel could not even be shown on the adoption floor. A rescue was her only hope.
Hope is what Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program specializes in. So on July 21st, a hopeful Mary Lou began to spread the word about Anabel, a one-year-old Pit Bull mix. On July 26th PAWS (Palmetto Animal Welfare Society), the parent organization of The Heart Beat Goes On, offered to take Anabel if funding was available for her heartworm treatment. Mary Lou contacted us for assistance and we agreed to cover her heartworm treatment costs. On August 24th Ananbel received her heartworm treatment.
“Anabel is a gentle girl who loves a pool, people and kids,” her foster mom shared with us. “She loves to walk and play with all of her foster siblings. She is sweet and loving. Anabel sits and waits so patiently for her leash. She’s all around as sweet as can be. Anabel doesn’t have a bad bone in her, she’s just so sweet and loving.” Click here to view more photos of Anabel.
RADAR paid all of Anabel’s heartworm treatment costs, totaling $299.
