“All in good time” takes on an added dimension when describing Annie’s long, long wait at the shelter! Annie arrived as a stray at the Lee County Animal Shelter in Bishopville, South Carolina on February 24th, 2013! About four years old at the time, this Labrador Retriever-Hound mix arrived with a five-week-old puppy as well. The puppy was quickly adopted, but Annie waited and waited for an adopter or rescue.
Last year the good folks with B.A.R.K. (Bishopville Animal Rescue Krew), a volunteer advocacy group that assists the shelter’s animals, covered the costs to get Annie vetted and spayed. Unfortunately, she tested heartworm positive. Shortly thereafter, a rescue was interested in taking Annie, but declined when they were made aware of her heartworm status since they could not afford the cost of treatment.
This April, when Home to Home Dog Rescue in Illinois offered to take Annie if her heartworm treatment could be covered, RADAR supporter and B.A.R.K. volunteer, Margaret Ellis, knew just what to do. She requested our assistance, and we agreed to help. B.A.R.K. raised $100 and RADAR covered the remaining $267 to seal the deal for Annie.
Annie’s heartworm treatment took place on April 28th. In early June she will make her way to Illinois. Margaret told us this about Annie: “She is a sweetheart! Annie deserves a good life in a loving home, and not waking up everyday in a cage at a noisy shelter. She is such a perfect girl!” Click here to see more photos of Annie.
RADAR paid $267 towards Annie’s heartworm treatment costs.
