It’s the awesome Ava! Only a year old and a Bully Breed mix, Ava was picked as a stray by animal control on October 9th and taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. For nearly three months she waited to be noticed by potential rescues or adopters. Beyond her breed mix, being heartworm positive didn’t help her situation. As 2018 turned to 2019, Ava found herself on the shelter’s urgent list.

Ava got a reprieve on January 12th when Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania offered to take her provided her heartworm treatment cost was covered. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, sought our help. We agreed to assist to seal the deal! Ava received her heartworm treatment on January 22nd.

“Ava is playful but polite, friendly but respectful of other dogs,” we were told. “She was used as the ‘dog tester’ dog, helping the shelter team evaluate the temperaments of other dogs due to her well-balanced and predictable behavior. Ava loves people! It’s impossible to be sad when she is around. She would be a great addition to a family wanting a dog who loves to give kisses or a playmate for their current dog. If a beautiful, dog-friendly, tail-wagging girl is just what you need to make your home complete, Ava is ready to fill the bill!” To see more photos of Ava, click here.

RADAR paid all of $226 of the heartworm treatment costs for Ava.
