Being at the shelter was not Bailey’s bailiwick! She arrived as a stray on July 8th at the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. One year old and a smaller-sized Pit Bull mix, Bailey had the misfortune of testing heartworm positive. Despite her sweet and gentle ways, she was not eligible to be adopted because of her heartworm status. Bailey’s only hope of getting out of the shelter alive was with a rescue commitment.

Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program began getting the word out about Bailey July 15th. With no rescue interest by July 29th, time was nearly up for Bailey. On July 30th the Palmetto Animal Welfare Society (the parent organization of The Heart Beat Goes On) said they would take Bailey but only if funds were available for her heartworm treatment. Mary Lou requested RADAR’s assistance and we agreed to cover her heartworm treatment costs. It was as if RADAR was posting bail for Bailey to secure her freedom! She received her heartworm treatment on August 24th.

“Bailey is such a sweet little girl,” her foster mom told us. “She is small, and so young and innocent. She loves walking and playing with all of her foster siblings. She thinks she’s as big as they are! She’s playful and loves her pool. She walks great on a leash, listens well and has no issues that we’ve found. She’s a snuggle bug!” Click here to view more photos of Bailey.

RADAR paid all of Bailey’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $299.
