No need for a lot of hullabaloo when it comes to Baloo! Animal control brought this three to four-year-old brindled Boxer-Bully Breed mix to the Darlington County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on May 4th. Testing heartworm positive and being a Bully Breed mix did not bode well for Baloo. With no rescue or adopter interest he was among the dogs posted on the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for June 24th, which meant he could be euthanized at any time after that date.
On June 24th, RADAR offered to cover Baloo’s heartworm treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On June 30th Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, shared the good news with us that the rescue Virginia Paws for Pits had agreed to take Baloo! He received his heartworm treatment on July 28th.
Susan told us this about Baloo: “He is more of the gentlemanly type, and not one to make a ruckus. He impressed everyone with his great leash walking skills. He is more of a mild-mannered type who enjoys quietly interacting with folks, getting petted and snuggling. He is a gentle greeter with other dogs, but he does have a playful side when he meets another dog interested in fun and games. Baloo is as sweet, humble and cute as can be!” Click here to see more photos of Baloo.
RADAR paid all of Baloo’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $304.
