In an odd turn of events, it was Baloo’s owner who called law enforcement about his own dog! Baloo’s crime was that he had started looking for entertainment in other people’s yards and was tearing things up. Of course, a securely fenced yard could have prevented this. On February 3rd, Baloo was surrendered to the Mary Ann Morris Animal Shelter (MAMAS) in Bamberg County, South Carolina. The two to three-year-old, 60-pound Collie-Shepherd mix was healthy in every way except for being heartworm positive.
On April 3rd, Ruthie Rish with MAMAS urgently contacted RADAR to see if we could cover Baloo’s heartworm treatment costs. If so, Laura’s Hope Rescue in Pennsylvania would take him, and a transport was headed to the rescue a few days later. We agreed to assist at once, and Baloo had his heartworm treatment completed the next day! He was transported to Laura’s Hope Rescue on April 7th.
“Baloo is a sweet boy,” Ruthie told us. “He gets along great with other dogs. He can be a bit timid at first, but warms up quickly. He will be an awesome family dog!” He does have a strong prey drive, so watch-out for birds and small critters like rabbits and squirrels! His rescue also renamed him Beckett, but he’ll always be Baloo to us! Click here to view more photos of Baloo.
RADAR paid all $270 of the heartworm treatment costs for Baloo.
