We think you’ll want to fawn all over this Bambi! Approximately eight years old, she was one of 17 Hounds seized in a cruelty case on September 8th and taken to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. The dogs were neglected and living in a chicken coop. They were all very thin and had hair loss. Bambi and three others tested heartworm positive. Eleven of the dogs were adopted or rescued in less than a week! Bambi was not one of the lucky ones. Bambi’s age and heartworm status worked against her.

On September 12th Gretchen Kozen, RADAR’s liaison for Duplin County asked for our help for Bambi. We provided an offer to help with her vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On September 21st Love Mutts Rescue in North Carolina decided to take Bambi! On September 24th she received her initial vetting, spaying and her preliminary heartworm treatment.

“Bambi is one of the sweetest, most loving dogs!” the rescue told us. “She has come a long way since her rescue, but still has a ways to go. Her coat is looking much better, and she is gaining some much-needed weight. Bambi walks well on a leash or harness and enjoys being outside. Bambi gets along well with other dogs, and shows no real interest in cats. She is a very playful girl and loves kids! She enjoys being brushed and, of course, is happy with her daily treats! Bambi would be a wonderful addition to any family. She truly is thankful to be alive and receiving some much-needed care and love!” Click here to view more photos of Bambi.

RADAR paid all of Bambi’s initial vetting, spaying and preliminary heartworm treatment costs, totaling $278.
