Bear didn’t seem to have a care when he was found wandering in Sumter County, South Carolina and brought to shelter on November 10th. This beautiful Bully Breed mix was three years old and very friendly. He was well-cared for, neutered, and had a collar on. The shelter staff was sure that his owners would contact the shelter. Sadly, it seems that he was abandoned as his owners never came for him. Maybe that was a fortunate turn for Bear, as he tested positive for heartworms, and he had obviously not been kept on preventatives.
On November 27th, Anna Cilento of Suruluna Animal Rescue in New York contacted RADAR about Bear. If we could assist with Bear’s heartworm treatment costs, the rescue would take him. We agreed, and Bear arrived at the rescue on December 23rd, just in time for the holidays. Bear had his heartworm treatment done on January 4th and 5th.
The rescue states that Bear is “such a sweet short boy. He loves everybody and is very playful but not too exuberant. Bear walks pretty well on the leash, loves going for walks or hanging out in the yard, sniffing around. Bear is really adorable. He is crate trained, very well behaved around the house and just needs someone to love.” Bear’s future now is as bright as the constellation Ursa Major, otherwise known as the Great Bear. RADAR paid $308 toward Bear’s heartworm treatment costs.
