Beau was the proverbial bag of bones when he was surrendered to an Animal Control Officer and brought to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on June 5th. His age was estimated at five to six years but if his worn-down teeth were from aging and not chewing on a very hard surface, he could be older. He is a Boxer mix and true to his breeding, he signals his joy at meeting anyone, human or animal, with his wiggly butt! Unfortunately, Beau tested positive for heartworms, which meant that he could not be adopted to the public. Beau had to be pulled by a rescue if he was to leave the shelter alive.
Mary Lou Seymour with The Heart Beat Goes On program knows beaucoup rescues. While Beau beefed up on shelter fare, Mary Lou boned up on rescues who might be interested in a brown-eyed Boxer. On June 23rd a rescue was interested in Beau but could not take him unless funding was available for the cost of his heartworm treatment. Mary Lou asked RADAR for assistance on June 23rd and we agreed. Beau was safe on July 2nd with DASH Animal Rescue of Ohio, and had his heartworm treatment on July 16th.
December Clark, who works with Mary Lou with The Heart Beat Goes On program, was just bowled-over by Beau. She loves this gentle-mannered dog who loves to cuddle, play fetch and snuggle with cats. Beau is crate-trained and is a quiet dog who never makes a peep, and even if he did, it would be a Beau-peep! Click here to view more photos of Beau.
RADAR paid all of $299 of Beau’s heartworm treatment costs.
