With her easy-going style, Becky is always beckoning to greet people cheerfully with her wagging tail! This four to five-year-old Pit Bull mix arrived as a stray on October 10th at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Despite Becky’s wonderful ways, the combination of being a Bully Breed mix and heartworm positive put her life at increased risk. On December 27th, Becky was placed on the shelter’s “Put To Sleep” list for January 3rd.
As soon as Becky was listed on the euthanasia list, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, requested our help. As an incentive for a rescue to take Becky, we provided an offer to assist with her heartworm treatment costs. With time rapidly running out, on January 2nd, Dawn Backer and her Knick Knack Pittie Pack rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take Becky! She received her heartworm treatments on January 13th and February 17th.
Susan, who met with Becky at the shelter, shared this with us: “Becky truly never met a stranger she didn’t like, whether human or canine. She’s very loving and affectionate. Becky loves to indulge in a belly rub or enjoy some lap time. With her gentle nature, Becky seems as though she would be a good match for a family with children. This doting, affectionate lady would be so grateful to the family who gives her a second chance at the ultimate prize: a happy forever home!” To see more photos of Becky, click here.
RADAR paid $300 toward Becky’s heartworm treatment costs.
