Because Belle is from South Carolina, that makes her a Southern Belle! This one to two-year old Bully Breed blend is a nicely-mannered, gentle-natured lady. Due to her owner’s health issues, she could no longer care for Belle, so on October 31st she was surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. It would be difficult enough to find a rescue or adopter for a Bully Breed like Belle, but all the more difficult because she tested positive for heartworms.
Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, met Belle during her visit at the shelter on Christmas Eve to take photos of the dogs. “Having met her,” Susan said, “I can attest to how much of a head turner Belle really is. She is so very striking!” On February 21st, One Life to Live Pet Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Belle if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Susan sought our funding help and we agreed! Belle had her heartworm treatment done on February 27th.
“Belle is outgoing and friendly,” we were told. “She is a strong girl with a good dose of playfulness. Belle is a leaner and a hugger, and just terribly sweet! Clearly having been a mom on several occasions, she’s a patient, thoughtful lady who can’t wait to forever hang up her apron strings and simply be someone’s companion. She will make some family very, very happy!” Click here to view more photos of Belle.
RADAR paid all of Belle’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $268.
