Big Mama

Cagney and Big Mama were the last remaining dogs at the Last Chance Animal Shelter in Pocahontas County, WV. The shelter’s contract was not renewed, so they had to get all of their dogs adopted or rescued. Any dogs left were likely to be euthanized.

Cagney is a three-month-old Plott Hound. This beautiful girl is very underweight. And yes, she had a sister named Lacey, who has been adopted! Click here for more pictures of Cagney.

Big Mama is a Treeing Walker Coonhound. She’s about 6 years old, and looks like a chubby Beagle! Click here for more pictures of Big Mama.

Thanks in large part to the efforts of Last Chance volunteer, De Anna Lynn, all but these two dogs were adopted or taken by rescues. But she was taking no chances with the last two dogs at Last Chance.

With just a few days left, a new rescue in Indiana, Hearts and Hounds Rescue, agreed to take both Cagney and Big Mama (the rescue has renamed her Maggie)! The only thing that remained was getting the basic vetting done for both dogs so they could be truly safe and on their way.

RADAR has committed to pay the $95 of initial vet care costs for Cagney and Big Mama.

With the help of so many, Cagney and Big Mama have gone from having almost no chance at Last Chance, to having their best chance for a lifetime in loving and caring forever homes.

UPDATE! Both dogs went to the vet today, and they are HEALTHY!
