Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, was known for his courageous spirit and his compassionate heart. This Bilbo, a six-year-old Bully blend, exemplifies those qualities. Bilbo was rescued from an abusive home on March 30th and taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. At that time he was sadly just skin and bones, weighing only 38 pounds.

Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted us about Bilbo on June 8th. We offered to cover his heartworm treatment so that Virginia Paws for Pits could provide rescue commitment. Bilbo was now safe! He received his heartworm treatment on June 20th and is now ready to go to a good home.

When describing Bilbo, Susan said that he’s a “happy, friendly, sweet boy,” and that he’s “determined not to let being stuck at the shelter bring him down.” Bilbo loves to go for walks, explore his surroundings, and smell good smells. While he’s not totally interested in cats, he enjoys meeting other dogs, both his size and smaller. Click here to view more photos of Bilbo.

RADAR paid all of Bilbo’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $296.
