What do Birkenstock sandals and clogs have to do with this Dachshund dog? Well, both have German origins. Beyond that, we have no clue! Birkenstock was admitted as a stray to the Harnett County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on August 6th. The shelter estimated him to be about 10 years old. A senior dog in a shelter is always among the most at risk.
On August 7th, Chris Leone, a RADAR supporter and advocate for the Harnett County Animal Shelter dogs, asked for our help with Birkenstock. We agreed to provide an offer to help cover his vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On August 11th, HEART (Heaven and Earth Animal Rescue Team) Pet Rescue in North Carolina took Birkenstock. His initial vetting and neutering took place on August 26th. As for being 10 years old, the vet suggested he’s more like two years old!
“He’s a real sweetheart,” the rescue said. “When we went to pick him up, we instantly fell in love with him! He’s lots of fun, and has a much higher energy level than we anticipated, which seems to confirm the vet’s estimate of his younger age. While he can calm down in the house, he loves going for long walks and hikes!” To see more photos of Birkenstock, click here.
RADAR paid all $105 of Birkenstock’s initial vetting and neutering costs.
