Just like playing the card game blackjack, this Blackjack was dealt some good hands and some bad hands. Spoiler alert: lady luck was on his side. Two years old and a Lab mix, Blackjack was surrendered by his owner to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on October 3rd. His owner was unable to properly care for him and wanted to give him the opportunity for a fresh start. Not only was he very thin, but unfortunately he also had heartworms.

On October 10th, Blackjack’s luck began to turn. Peak Lab Rescue in North Carolina contacted us to ask for our help with him. If we could assist with his heartworm treatment, the rescue would take him. Of course, we agreed! On November 9th and 10th, Blackjack had his heartworm treatment done.

The rescue told us this about Blackjack: “He gets along exceptionally well with other dogs and people, and will be your best friend as soon as you meet him. Blackjack is wonderful with children and loves their attention! He is a high-energy dog and loves to be outside, but is perfectly content to spend his hours sleeping in his crate. He is a “leaner” and loves having his neck scratched. He will come up to you, put his head down, and then lean on you for hours while you scratch his neck and play with his ears!” Click here to view more photos of Blackjack.

RADAR paid all of Blackjack’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $201.
