Break out your best brandy to make a toast to Brandi! She is the 200th dog RADAR has assisted from Darlington, South Carolina! Two to three years old, this Labrador Retriever-Shepherd mix arrived on August 1st at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Brandi and her four older pups were surrendered to the shelter by their owner who could no longer afford to care for so many dogs. While all four pups were able to find rescues, Brandi was not so lucky. It didn’t help that she was a black dog and heartworm positive. With the shelter overflowing, time was not on her side. She ended up on the shelter’s “Put To Sleep” list for August 20th.

On August 19th, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, requested our assistance to help save Brandi. IF her heartworm treatment costs could be covered, One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania would take Brandi! We agreed at once, and Brandi was safe! She had her heartworm treatment done on September 16th.

After meeting Brandi and taking her photos, Susan had this to share: “She was very intent on getting the most out of my walk with her, exploring the entire area with her nose so she could take the memories of fresh air and green grass back with her to her kennel. She shared her kennel with a large male, and she was relaxed in greeting the dogs in the other kennels we passed. Brandi is friendly but not in a pushy or demanding way. She is more of the independent type, coming over to say hello but then content to just hang nearby rather than trying to climb all over your lap or slather you with kisses.” It sounds like Brandi is just dandy! RADAR paid all of heartworm treatment costs for Brandi, totaling $217.
