All good things in time, and for Brenda that was a very long, long time. It was July 19th of 2013 when Brenda was picked up by animal control and taken to the Pocahontas County Animal Control shelter in West Virginia. Brenda is a two to three-year-old Labrador Retriever-English Coonhound mix. While Brenda had the misfortune to end up in a small rural shelter, she had the good fortune to have the remarkable De Anna advocating for her and never giving up on her. De Anna, through her Advocates for Shelter Animals of Pocahontas Co., WV (ASAP), works relentlessly to help the shelter animals of Pocahontas County. She is a true unsung hero for these dogs and cats.
In an effort to help De Anna help Brenda, on December 13th, RADAR provided an offer to assist with Brenda’s vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take her. But still many more months passed without any rescue interest. Then on June 9th, we received this message from De Anna: “OMG! I am on Cloud 9!!!!!! Amy Hammer with Augusta Dog Adoptions in Virginia just called me. They will take Brenda!!!” The shouts of joy must have been heard in the surrounding counties, if not surrounding states!
Brenda received her initial vetting and was spayed on June 20th. Her new foster Dad had this to report about Brenda: “She gets along very well with other dogs and loves to play ball. She likes to romp around with her foster brothers and sisters in the back yard. Brenda also enjoys laying at her foster Dad’s feet. And, she discovered that the couch is kinda comfortable. Brenda is a doll baby!” To view more photos of Brenda, click here.
RADAR paid Brenda’s initial vetting and spaying costs of $137.
