Brownie, a delicious dark chocolate-colored Bully Breed mix, was surrendered by her owner along with her four-week-old puppy Muffin to the Columbus County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on April 21st. Four-year-old Brownie had signs of giving birth several times. Another sign of neglect was her heartworm positive status. Brownie had not received the heartworm prevention she needed in such a hot and humid climate. A maligned breed, a color that receives bias and a status of heartworm positive all conspired against Brownie’s chances for a rescue.
Suruluna Animal Rescue in New York wanted to step up for Brownie, but needed help with the cost of her heartworm treatment. On May 9th, the rescue asked for RADAR’s assistance with Brownie’s heartworm expenses. We committed to Brownie, and she had her heartworm treatment on June 13th.
“Brownie is really sweet and affectionate,” the rescue told us. “She loves people and she is very good around other dogs. Brownie would be a great family dog, maybe with older kids because she is a bit shy, but she is awesome around children. Brownie is also house trained and crate trained. Her sweet face is adorable and she is very playful and joyous.” Be sure to view more photos in Brownie’s gallery.
RADAR paid all of Brownie’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $312.
