When Brutus was surrendered to the shelter, his owner claimed it was because Brutus was digging holes. More likely, it was because this eight-year-old Boxer blend had a growth on his stomach and his owner did not want to pay for the needed vet care. Brutus entered the Surry County Animal Control shelter in North Carolina on May 1st. The shelter staff described him as friendly and affectionate, with beautiful and loving eyes.
Mayberry 4 Paws in North Carolina, an organization that helps facilitate and find rescues for the at-risk dogs at this shelter, asked for RADAR’s help with Brutus on May 2nd. The shelter was full, and as an older dog and owner surrender, Brutus was at high risk of being euthanized. We provided an offer to assist with his vetting costs to help encourage a rescue to take him. A few days later, Carolina Boxer Rescue in North Carolina came forward to take him! He had his initial vetting, neutering and cyst removal surgery done on May 26th.
“Brutus has won my heart over so quickly!” his foster, Stacy Boyd, told us. “I really want to keep him. He is the biggest teddy bear. It makes me ask the question why anyone would surrender a dog so loving and precious! He deserves nothing less than the best!” Click here to view more photos of Brutus.
RADAR paid $200 towards the vetting, neutering and cyst removal surgery for Brutus.

UPDATE! Brutus has been adopted! From Katie, his forever Mom, “Thank you to everyone who helped rescue Brutus. We adopted him from CBR. Our 6 and 9 year old daughters renamed him Bruce. He has been a wonderful addition to our family! His fur sister has been helping teach him how to live the good life of chasing squirrels, sleeping in the bed and playing. Thank you all again for helping save our sweet boy!”
