Dogs are man’s best friend, and Buddy is everyone’s best buddy! Weighing in at 62 pounds, this three-year-old Lab mix was taken to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on September 14th after being found as a stray when Hurricane Florence hit the area. Given Buddy’s perfect mix of endless energy and cuddly qualities, it was no surprise when someone decided to adopt him from the shelter. But that good news was short-lived, because the person backed out when they found out that Buddy was heartworm positive.

On September 30th, Karen Steers with Peak Lab Rescue in North Carolina asked RADAR if we could help with Buddy’s heartworm treatment costs. If so, the rescue would pull him. We agreed and Buddy was safe! He had his heartworm treatments done on December 27th and 28th.

“Buddy is a sweet and playful pup!” his foster reported. “He is all about his love of humans and fellow dogs! Buddy’s motto is “Play hard, then cuddle up!’ Buddy is a social dog and would love to have a canine sibling or active family to be his pack. He’s gentle with kids. He sleeps through the night, enjoys receiving belly rubs and being an ultimate, equal opportunity couch cuddler! He is not much of a barker, but he will talk to you with a variety of mmm’s, especially during belly rubs. The kids and I think this is hilarious!” To see more photos of Buddy, click here.

RADAR paid all $269 of the heartworm treatment costs for Buddy.
