Buford is a beauty! But like so many RADAR dogs, there is sad story behind his happy face. This two-year-old Labrador Retriever-Border Collie mix arrived at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on May 31st. Buford’s owner died, and with no family members interested in taking him, Buford was surrendered to the shelter. With the shelter’s policy that after 10 days a dog is subject to being euthanized at any time, Buford’s life was quickly in danger.
On June 24th, a shelter staff member urged the Southern WV Animal League in West Virginia to take the sweet and wonderful Buford. The rescue immediately requested our assistance so that they could commit to take Buford. We agreed at once, and Buford was saved that same day! His initial vetting took place on July 1st. Fortunately, he had been previously neutered.
Southern WV Animal League shared this with us about Buford: “He is friendly and affectionate. He loves to give hugs! He tends to jump, but his foster family is working on that, and he is already getting better. Buford has lots of energy, and loves to run and play. He does well with other dogs, but plays very hard and loves to frolic. He will obey basic commands. He is a very good boy who just loves people so much! He loves to play with toys! Buford is a comedian, and is always doing something funny or silly to make his foster family laugh!” Click here to see more photos of Buford.
RADAR paid all $51 of Buford’s initial vetting costs.
