It was clear that Bumper had bumped into some problems when he arrived at the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in Bamberg County, South Carolina on May 29th. This two-year-old German Shepherd was brought in as an owner surrender with his brother, a three- to four-year-old German Shepherd named Thumper. Their previous owner had developed health problems and was no longer able to take care of Bumper and Thumper. In addition to having fly bites all along their ears, both dogs were heartworm positive.
Ruthie Rish of MAMAS reached out to RADAR on June 7th to ask if we could help with Bumper and his brother. A family was ready to adopt Bumper from the shelter, and Wet Nose Rescue in Pennsylvania was interested in pulling Thumper, but both dogs needed the costs of their heartworm treatment taken care of. We said we would help, and Bumper got his treatment on June 9th, while Thumper got his on June 10th.
“Bumper, like his brother, Thumper, is such a sweet dog. Not to mention beautiful. He is friends with everybody, human, canine and feline,” Ruthie told us. Christine provided a place for Bumper and Thumper to crash for the night when they were transported. She said this of Bumper, “he’s really friendly and seems to like toys. So handsome, too.” Be sure to view more photos in Bumper’s gallery.
RADAR paid all Bumper’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $315.
