Buster Brown

One must be tough as shoe leather to walk a mile in Buster Brown’s paw prints. But this little boy has a soft and cushy inner soul. We will never know what walk of life brought three-year-old Buster Brown, a Pit Bull-Boxer mix, to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina as a stray on December 16th.

Unfortunately, Buster Brown tested heartworm positive. This meant that he could not be adopted to the public. If Buster Brown didn’t get pulled by a rescue, he would be leaving the shelter paws first.

Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program began contacting rescues about Buster Brown on December 27th. The very next day a rescue expressed interest in Buster Brown if funding for heartworm treatment were available. Mary Lou asked RADAR for assistance and we agreed immediately to assist. On December 30th, Feline Canine Fellowship Coalition in South Carolina confirmed that they would pull Buster Brown. He had his heartworm treatment on February 2nd and 3rd.

Buster Brown’s foster mom says, “Buster is an energetic, lovable and kissable dog. From the scars it looks like he has had a very tough life up until now. He did have some issues with an un-neutered male and a recently neutered male, but he seems good with the rest of the pack. But, absolutely no cats!” The original Buster Brown, created in 1902, lived in a shoe with Tiger, his American Pit Bull Terrier. Also, no room for cats! RADAR paid all of Buster Brown’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $265.
