Buster Brown was a comic strip character depicted as a wealthy schoolboy prankster who had a grinning talking pet Bulldog named Tige. In this case, Buster Brown is the dog, and not even a Bulldog, but a Lab mix! This two-year-old made his way to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on August 29th as a stray. While his history was not known, what was known is that he had heartworms.
On August 30th, Gretchen Kozen, RADAR’s liaison for the shelter, contacted us to ask for our help with Buster Brown. We agreed to assist in the cost of heartworm treatment, which would serve as an incentive for a rescue to take him. The very next day, Peak Lab Rescue in North Carolina stepped up to take him! On October 19th and 20th, Buster Brown had his heartworm treatment done.
His rescue told us this about Buster Brown: “He is the perfect mix of energy and snuggle. He’ll bound around outside chasing a ball with his tail wagging but when it’s time to settle down, he’ll mellow out – usually by your side. He greets other dogs appropriately, loves kids and doesn’t seem to mind cats. Buster Brown loves to go for walks, and then going to outdoor cafes afterward where he can sit and get pets and hugs from anyone who asks!” Click here to view more photos of Buster Brown.
RADAR paid all of Buster Brown’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $254.
