Butters? And you’re probably thinking, “I can’t believe it’s not Butter!” But, for butter or worse, it’s Butters! This Beagle-Pomeranian mix, along with his brother D.O.G., arrived at the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center shelter in Augusta County, Virginia, on January 8th. The seven-year-old brothers were surrendered by their owner. The reason given was simply that he no longer wanted them. In this case, an owner surrender was a good thing since both dogs had lived all of their lives chained outside.
On February 10th, the foster-based rescue Highland County Humane Society (HCHS) in Virginia pulled both dogs. During the initial vetting, both dogs tested heartworm positive. Corena Huffman from HCHS immediately asked for RADAR’s assistance. We agreed to partner with HCHS on the treatment cost. Butters and D.O.G. received their heartworm treatment on March 13th, with the cost $320 for each dog. HCHS raised $130 for each dog, and RADAR paid the remaining $190 each.
Both dogs are in a foster home together. We learned this about Butters: “He is a total sweetie, but definitely the boss of his brother D.O.G.! Butters does well with other dogs, showing no aggression. He’s very gentle and good with kids. He’s learning house training. Butters walks well on a leash, can be crated, and loves car rides!” To view more photos of Butters, click here.
RADAR paid $190 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Butters.
