As far as we know, this Calvin has no Hobbes! A one to two-year-old Labrador Retriever-Bully Breed mix, Calvin was picked up as an abandoned stray by animal control on July 15th. He was taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina, where he tested heartworm positive. With no rescue or adopter interest as the weeks and months passed, Calvin’s life went from being in limbo to being in danger. On October 4th, Calvin was added to the shelter’s “Put To Sleep” list.
Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, immediately asked for our help with Calvin. We provided an offer to cover the cost of Calvin’s heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take him. With options running out for Calvin, on October 27th Caring for Creatures in Virginia agreed to take him! Calvin had his heartworm treatments done on November 1st.
Susan shared this with us about Calvin: “He is happy for attention and is really humble to humans. He loves to run and play. Eating is his favorite time of day. He acts like a puppy with his bubbly nature. Calvin is great on a leash, he’s friendly and energetic, and not interested in cats!” Click here to view more photos of Calvin.
RADAR paid all of Calvin’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $264.
UPDATE! Calvin has been adopted! His new name is Buddy!
