It’s Camden’s cameo appearance on the RADAR! Camden, a four to five-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, arrived as a stray at the Charles City Animal Shelter in Charles County, Virginia, June 15th. Like so many dogs RADAR assists, Camden was at-risk because of his heartworm positive status. With the extra expense required for heartworm treatment, dogs like Camden are among the least likely to get adopted or taken by rescues.
In Camden’s case, his breed appropriately caught the attention of the New Beginnings German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue in Maryland. They immediately began efforts to rescue Camden. On June 17th, one of our rescue partners contacted us to see if we could assist New Beginnings with Camden’s heartworm treatment. We agreed the same day, and on June 21st Camden was out of the shelter! His transport to Maryland to New Beginnings for his new beginning was on June 23rd. On August 8th and 9th, Camden received his heartworm treatment.
Gail, his foster mom had this to share with us: “When I first saw him I didn’t think he would make it. He was so thin. His transporter thought Camden seemed very depressed. He was so afraid. He would not walk on a leash. We gave him lots of love and food. Now, after seven weeks, you would not believe it is the same dog! He gained nine pounds and looks great. He now walks well on a leash. He loves to run in our backyard, and his tail wags the whole time. My dog and Camden love to play. He is great with kids. He loves to be outdoors. But he really enjoys lots of loving. He has a very gentle soul and is very calm. I am so thankful to the people who saved Camden and got him to us. It upsets me to think he was almost put to sleep. He is a great dog!” Click here to view more photos of Camden.
RADAR paid all $284 of the heartworm treatment costs for Camden.
