Camilla, the three-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, has very little in common with Camilla, the wealthy Duchess of Cornwall. This Camilla led a very unprivileged life before she was surrendered by her owner on March 15th to the Vance County Animal Shelter in North Carolina, along with her son Roscoe and pregnant sister Penelope. It was obvious Camilla had previously given birth to several puppy litters. Despite being neglected and used as a puppy producer, Camilla has a sweet and friendly personality. But she soon was in danger at this full, rural shelter. Camilla tested positive for Lyme, Ehrlichia, and heartworms. Her chances of getting out of the shelter were greatly hindered with her health issues, especially with the diagnosis of heartworm positive.
On March 25th, Kelly Normandin of Underhound Railroad in Maine sought RADAR’s help with Camilla’s heartworm treatment costs. If we could assist, they would be able to pull Camilla. We agreed, and Underhound Railroad rescued Camilla and her son Roscoe. They went into foster care together until her heartworm treatment, which started on May 29th, is completed and they can be transported to Maine. Penelope was also rescued.
Her foster family says: “Camilla immediately stole our hearts with her diminutive size, gentle way, and soft, expressive brown eyes. Camilla quickly began to show herself to be a loving and well-mannered dog. She hasn’t made a peep since she arrived. She’s such a quiet girl, except for a tiny whimper when she needs to go potty. She has a habit of wrinkling her lips when she is excited or hungry and it makes us laugh! She is wonderful with our three-year-old daughter. She will be a delightful addition to her new forever family one day. She loves being with Roscoe, they sleep curled up together, share their meals and we might add, Camilla always wins their games of tussle! She has not let her past life color her present in the slightest!” To see more photos of Camilla, click here.
RADAR paid $250 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Camilla.
