Candy is not only sweet as you might expect from her name, but also a beauty with a dark, shiny coat with a white blaze. She is a three- to four-year-old Boxer-Bully Breed mix who arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society in South Carolina along with her buddy Ronnie. Both dogs were brought to the shelter on March 15th by their owner who didn’t want them anymore. Ronnie was adopted but Candy’s heartworm positive status kept potential adopters and rescues away.
One Life To Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania wanted to find Candy a home but her heartworms would need to be treated first. On May 3rd, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked RADAR if we could cover Candy’s heartworm medical expenses, and we agreed. Candy needed the more costly split heartworm treatment, which took place on May 28th and July 9th.
We are told this about Candy: “She was very thin when she first arrived, which gives us a hint at what her life had been like, but now she is a nice healthy weight. Candy has met other dogs, both male and female, and has been friendly and social with all. She’s a mellow girl and nothing seems to ruffle her feathers. Her nub tail wiggles when she is happy doing her favorite thing, which is being loved on. Give this loving gal a look and maybe she is the dog you need to make your home complete. She’s ready to move in and learn what a forever home is really like.” Click here to view more photos of Candy.
RADAR paid all of Candy’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $513.
