If anyone knows hardship, it’s Carl. This senior Bully Breed mix, somewhere between seven and eight years old, arrived at the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on January 10th. Carl, who is also blind, was almost hit by a car when he was running at large in the area. The person who’d been driving was able to take Carl to the shelter, but no one came to pick him up. Not surprisingly, Carl was heartworm positive, which was just another reason why his chances of being rescued or adopted were slim.
On January 16th, and with Carl’s hold time up, Kelly Chalkley with Sunshine Senior Dog Sanctuary in Virginia urgently sought RADAR’s assistance for him. As a blind senior, a Bully Breed and heartworm positive, Carl was indeed an at-risk dog, we agreed to help at once. He had his initial vetting and x-rays on January 30th. His heartworm treatment was completed on February 28th.
“Carl is s wonderful boy,” his foster Mom, Tracy, said. “He is making many new friends with the other dogs in our home.” She also believes that Carl most likely spent his life on a chain, as his ears have been frostbitten and his body shows signs of abuse. Despite his past, Tracy says that Carl’s “heart and soul are filled with such love.” Click here to view more photos of Carl.
RADAR paid $446 toward Carl’s initial vetting, x-ray and heartworm treatment costs.
