Casanova, quite aptly named for his fatherhood prowess and winning personality, arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on February 18th as an animal neglect seizure. He wasn’t alone, as Cappuccino and their four puppies were also seized. A two-year-old Bully Breed mix, Casanova was underweight, as was his mate Cappuccino. Casanova looked especially rough and neglected. Both adult dogs had great personalities but given that they were both heartworm positive, not a surprise with their history of neglect, they would need financial help to obtain costly heartworm treatment so they could be rescued from the shelter.
To Love A Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania had already committed to rescue Cappuccino and her four puppies and now wanted to rescue Casanova if his heartworms could be treated. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted RADAR on March 29th, asking for our help with Casanova. We agreed to cover the expenses of Casanova’s heartworm treatment and he completed his heartworm treatment on March 31st.
“Casanova loves attention,” Susan shared with us. “He’s a happy dog. Casanova is very eager to please and at first is excited to be with you and jumps around but stopped when he was corrected and chills out quickly. He seeks out petting and affection and wants to be with his person. Casanova loves belly rugs. I can see him curled next to his person on a couch at night and running and playing with other dogs. He is not high-energy and enjoys relaxing in the shade.” Be sure to view more photos in Casanova’s gallery.
RADAR paid all $267 of the heartworm treatment costs for Casanova.
UPDATE! All funds for Casanova have been raised! Thank you!
