On June 19th, 132 dogs and 10 cats were seized from a home in Falling Waters, WV, following an undercover investigation by the Humane Society of the United States. Many of the animals were dehydrated, had skin conditions and were underweight. The dogs varied in size and breed, and some were either pregnant or nursing puppies.

It’s still not clear if this was a commercial breeding operation, a hoarding case, or a terrible combination of both. No charges have been filed yet, but the investigation continues. Conditions in the house were so deplorable that local authorities have since condemned the property. Unfortunately, two of the dogs died.

The local animal control worked with many organizations to help get the animals treated and placed with rescues. One of those rescues was Friends Fur Life Rescue, a RADAR partner. With Friends Fur Life based in a neighboring county, the rescue jumped into action and pulled several dogs.

Friends Fur Life’s ability to pull more dogs was limited by two factors: available fosters and available funds. When more volunteers came forward to foster, they were out of funds. The rescue reached out to RADAR for help. With RADAR’s commitment to cover the initial vetting costs, Friends Fur Life was able to pull three more at-risk dogs – Selene, Cassidy and Rayne. Cassidy, a Black Labrador Retriever mix, who was thought to be pregnant, then not… turns out, she IS pregnant! Click here for additional photos of Cassidy.

RADAR has committed to pay the $37 of vet care costs for Cassidy.

UPDATE! Cassidy has been adopted by her foster!
