“Take a Chance on Me” certainly applied to Chance! This three-year-old Bully Breed mix was seized by animal control on March 23rd and taken to the Lee County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Because he was extremely emaciated and in such poor condition, animal control pressed charges against his owner. Unfortunately, this meant Chance had to be on court hold until the case was resolved. When his owner finally plead guilty to the charges, Chance was released to be adopted or rescued. Of course, he was also heartworm positive.
Brandi Sowell, RADAR’s liaison with the Lee County Animal Shelter, asked us for help with Chance on September 6th. “We are so excited that not only is Chance alive and thriving now,” Brandi said, “but that he also is getting justice! Chance has waited since March at our shelter, and finally has rescue interest!” Suruluna Animal Rescue in New York agreed to take him if we could assist with his vetting costs. We agreed! On October 12th, Chance received his initial vetting, neutering, and the blood test and x-ray needed for his heartworm treatment.
Anna Cilento, the founder and director of the rescue, had this to share with us about Chance: “He is awesome! We love him so much. He’s friendly and affectionate, just like a puppy!” By the way, Brandi also had this to tell us, “Chance’s owner did receive the maximum fine. The judge was not having any of his excuses!” To see more photos of Chance, click here.
RADAR paid all of the initial vetting, neutering, blood test, and x-ray costs for Chance, which totaled $313.
