Chase may be little, but that doesn’t stop him from protecting the ones he loves most! Somewhere between five and seven years old, this Chihuahua mix found himself wandering the streets of South Carolina with his companion, Midnight, a female Labrador Retriever Mix. The two of them were taken to the Fairfield County shelter in Winnsboro, South Carolina on August 24th. When their owner came to claim them, the owner didn’t want to pay for the cost of Chase’s and Midnight’s rabies vaccinations, choosing instead to leave them at the shelter and risk being euthanized. It also turned out that Chase and Midnight hadn’t been well taken care of, as they both tested positive for heartworms.
Thankfully, there were people looking out for the inseparable pair. On August 28th, Marika Krausova with K-9 Lifesavers in Stafford, Virginia, contacted RADAR to see if we could assist in the cost of both Chase’s and Midnight’s heartworm treatment. We agreed, and the two of them started their treatment on October 18th.
At the rescue, Chase continued to look after Midnight. Marika told us that Chase was very protective of his companion, and that he was always giving her kisses. She also said that Chase and Midnight “like to stick close to each other nonstop.” The folks at the both the shelter and rescue were hoping that the two companions could stay together when they found their forever home. On October 29th, we heard from Marika that both Chase and Midnight had been adopted. But that wasn’t all: they were adopted together! To see more photos of Chase, click here.
RADAR paid $300 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Chase.
