Who can resist Chocolate? And especially this Chocolate Labrador Retriever-Chow Chow mix! Approximately four-years-old, Chocolate was surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on December 4th. Chocolate’s owner was moving, but not taking her along. The holiday season was bleak indeed as she and her canine companion, Jerry, awaited an uncertain fate at the shelter. Making matters worse, she tested positive for heartworm.
When Chocolate showed up on the shelter’s weekly PTS (Put To Sleep) list, efforts went into overdrive to save her. Thanks to the efforts of the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue volunteers, All 4 Paws Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take Chocolate if her initial vetting and heartworm treatment costs could be covered. A donor took care of the initial vetting costs, but the remaining hurdle was the heartworm treatment cost.
Susan Blakeney, a dedicated volunteer with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue and their liaison to RADAR, asked for our assistance, and we immediately committed to covering Chocolate’s heartworm treatment cost.
Susan shared this with us about Chocolate, “She is well-mannered and quiet, and super sweet!” To view more photos of Chocolate (taken by Susan), click here.
Chocolate’s heartworm treatment has been completed. Her transport to All 4 Paws Rescue takes place on January 26th.
RADAR has paid for all of Chocolate’s $269 heartworm treatment cost.
