As the saying goes, “Cinnamon spice and everything nice!” Despite the odds, everything did indeed turn out nice for Cinnamon. But that was not the case when this young adult Labrador Retriever mix arrived as a stray at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on May 3rd. Cinnamon was suffering from a prolapsed uterus and needed immediate care, which the good folks with ALIVE and the Mercer County Volunteers provided.
With no adopter or rescue interest, in mid-May Cinnamon was placed on the Code Red list. With her days numbered, she needed help. As an incentive for a rescue to take Cinnamon, on May 19th RADAR provided an assistance offer for her.
Coincidently, the weekend of May 18th, Michelle Ziemba from Dogs in Harmony Rescue, along with her husband, drove from Rhode Island to the shelter in West Virginia to pick up two other dogs for the rescue. As much as Michelle was drawn to Cinnamon and wanted to taker her, she had no room in her compact car or an available foster home.
Cinnamon’s sad eyes haunted Michelle all the way home. Once she arrived home, her friend, Kim Moore, offered to foster! Cinnamon was now safe! The only obstacle remaining was getting Cinnamon to Rhode Island. And that’s where RADAR’s assistance offer saved the day. Using Underdogs to the Rescue transport service, Cinnamon made her way to Rhode Island the weekend of June 6th. Just to make everything even nicer for Cinnamon, she arrived to a family waiting to adopt her. Michelle says, “Her new home is amazing. Cinnamon has won the lottery!” To see more photos of Cinnamon, click here.
RADAR paid all of Cinnamon’s transport cost of $130.
UPDATE! Cinnamon has been adopted! Not only does she have a forever family, but she has a new name… Pepper!
