We had to help Clue; otherwise, we would have been Clueless! This three-year-old Pit Bull mix arrived as a stray at the Chester County Animal Care & Control shelter in South Carolina way back on February 20th. Month after month passed with no adopter or rescue interest. The combination of being a Pit Bull mix and heartworm positive put her life at increasing risk at this crowded rural shelter.
On June 5th, folks at the shelter asked for RADAR’s help for Clue since she was one of many urgent dogs. We provided an offer to assist with the cost of Clue’s heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take her. Even with our offer and relentless networking, Clue had no rescue interest all through the summer.
And then on September 2nd, Melissa McAllister and her South of the Bully Rescue in North Carolina agreed to take Clue! She received her heartworm treatment on September 16th. We were told this about Clue: “She is a real sweetheart! She is good with people and dogs, but not cats.” And now for the really great news – shortly after Clue had her heartworm treatment, she was adopted! After waiting so long, everything just fell into place. She had her treatment, and went back to the shelter until her rescue could pick her up. A few days later, a wonderful family came into the shelter and fell in love with Clue. The shelter, rescue and adopters worked everything out and Clue went HOME! RADAR paid all $250 of Clue’s heartworm treatment costs.
