An eight year-old Bully Breed mix, Cole was surrendered by his owner to the Duplin County Animal Services in North Carolina on October 5th. Also surrendered was his sibling. While his sibling was quickly able to secure a rescue placement, Cole was left behind. He had severe skin problems and heartworms. In this high-kill shelter, it was no surprise when Cole was placed on the shelter’s euthanasia list.
Late on October 9th, Autumn Gisher urgently asked for our help for Cole. Her rescue, Sweet Souls Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania, would pull him the next morning if we could assist with his heartworm treatment costs. We agreed and Cole, who was originally named Omen, was safely out of the shelter and off to the vet on October 10th for his initial vetting and to start his heartworm treatment medications.
Cole arrived at the rescue on October 12th, and was quickly sent to the vet for more evaluation. He had several lumps (they were removed in late October), broken K9 teeth, and what appeared to be an old scar from an embedded collar. It is believed Cole spent much of his life on a chain, and that his teeth were broken while gnawing on the chain. “He’s a wonderful dog!” Autumn told us. “Whoever let him get like this and threw him away, really missed out on a perfect dog! He’s a cuddle bug! I don’t think he’s ever lived inside, but he makes himself comfy super fast! He loves to give kisses!” Click here to view more photos of Cole.
RADAR paid $250 towards Cole’s initial vetting and heartworm treatment medication costs.

UPDATE Cole crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 10, 2019. He was a senior who had numerous health issues, from cancer, skin issues and heartworms. He was still a happy dog, who lived every day to the fullest. Cole was very loved and was always happy to show just how grateful he was for his second chance. Thank you to all who helped Cole. Rest in Peace, Cole.
