Conrad Hilton stayed countless days and nights in his hotels, but this Conrad stayed in a shelter for over 90 days and nights! This three-year-old Rottweiler mix arrived at Lee County Animal Shelter in Bishopville, South Carolina on March 18th. Handsome Conrad was just another big black dog being overlooked in a small rural shelter. It didn’t help that he was also heartworm positive. That could have been a death sentence for Conrad, but the small, hardworking and dedicated staff at the shelter worked diligently to find a safe place for Conrad to go. In mid-June their efforts paid off when Southern States Rescued Rottweilers in Arkansas agreed to take Conrad if the shelter could first get his heartworm treatment done and paid.
On June 17th, Margaret Ellis with B.A.R.K. (Bishopville Animal Rescue Krew), a volunteer advocacy group that assists the shelter’s animals, requested RADAR’s help. With our immediate commitment to provide $250 towards Conrad’s heartworm treatment, B.A.R.K. was able to commit to the rest of the cost, and Conrad was safe! The shelter folks wasted no time in getting Conrad’s heartworm treatment done: it took place on June 19th.
Margaret told us this about Conrad: “As a large black dog, he was virtually invisible to potential adopters and rescuers. It didn’t help that he was very withdrawn and timid when he arrived. With love and attention from shelter staff and volunteers, he has blossomed into a total sweetheart who loves to run and play! Conrad will be a devoted and playful companion. He is a big boy who deserved a much-needed second chance!” Click here to view more photos of Conrad.
RADAR paid all $250 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Conrad.
