Lookie! Lookie! It’s a dog named Cookie! Approximately two years old, this Labrador Retriever-Redbone Coonhound mix arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on January 30th. She was brought in by animal control. Although Cookie was a fun and loving dog, she was passed over by adopters and rescues. Her heartworm positive status did not help. Cookie ended up on the shelter’s Put To Sleep list for March 19th.
With only a few hours left for Cookie, on March 19th, Puppy Paws Rescue in Maryland agreed to take her! However, they could only do so if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, immediately contacted us for help. We agreed at once, and Cookie was safe! She had her heartworm treatment done on April 8th.
We learned this about Cookie from Susan: “As her name would imply, Cookie is one sweet lady. She’s a gentle-natured gal who loves nothing more than to get her belly rubbed and to hang close by people. She’s great with other dogs. In her kennel she could always be seen sporting a huge grin, even though the shelter environment was very stressful for her. Cookie is a very doting, loving girl with a big heart!” To view more photos of Cookie, click here.
RADAR paid all of Cookie’s heartworm treatment costs totaling $252.
